Master Chief Rekiya Janssen is a lifelong member of the Sea Services Leadership Association (SSLA) and the Senior Enlisted Advisor on the SSLA Board. Her responsibilities include serving as an active advocate and ambassador for SSLA’s mission as well as providing counsel, encouragement, and insight regarding issues concerning enlisted sea service.
Rekiya has 27 years in the Coast Guard and has served 13 of those years at sea in the engineering department as a Machinery Technician. She is currently serving as the Command Master Chief for USCG Sector New Orleans and is the senior enlisted advisor to her principle on all matters pertaining to enlisted personnel and their families in the Sector New Orleans area of responsibility, which includes three stations, six cutters, three Marine Safety Units, and four Aids to Navigation units throughout Louisiana and Mississippi.
Hailing from Governors Island, New York, Rekiya is the daughter of a retired Senior Chief and is married to a retired Master Chief. She has three children, a son in law, and two grandchildren.
Rekiya is passionate about motivating and propelling others to exceed their personal and professional goals through mentoring, networking, and collaborating with other organizations.
